Leonid Lamm was born in Moscow in 1928. The artist was educated at the Moscow Institute of Architecture between the years 1944 and 1947 and the Moscow Poligraphic Institute from 1949 to 1954. In 1973, three weeks after applying from emigration, Lamm was arrested and ended up spending three years in Soviet prisons and labor camps. In 1982, he finally immigrated to New York, where he still lives and works today.
