Art Paris 2014

February 18 2014 - March 30 2014

Save the date to visit us at Art Paris, held at the Grand Palais in Paris, France, 26 - 30 March 2014.  Art and politics is an important theme of our booth this year.  Emblems, words and images create the basis for the conceptual understanding of these paintings, drawings, sculptures and photographs.

In honor of 50 years of relations between France and China, this year's guest of honor, the booth will include several pieces by two giants of the contemporary Chinese scene:  Sui Jianguo and Huang Yan.  Sui is currently taking part in an exhibition at Pace Gallery and is featured in the new Phaidon publication The Chinese Art Book.  His past exhibition at the British Museum was pivotal in making a connection between the cultures of east and west.  Huang Yan, currently on exhibit at New York's Metropolitan Museum, blurs the division between landscape and self-expression, an approach that affords him the opportunity to work with such international talents as Ai Weiwei.  Each poignantly addresses China's position at the forefront of globalization through their own unique perceptions.

We are also introducing two new emerging talents, Lu Linling and Nicolas Tolmachev.  Born in Guizhou Province in 1983, Lu is currently living and working in Baltimore, MD.  Her visual meditations are rooted in her Chinese heritage and reflect the silence of solitude in circles of repetitive color. Tolmachev's precise, beautiful, yet unsettling drawings encourage viewers to consider the human condition.  Ukrainian native and at only 19 years old, he was recently awarded the Grant UART prize, affording him the opportunity to continue his art education in Paris.

Our gallery will also display a rich collection of contemporary Russian pieces from internationally respected artists.  Erik Bulatov parallels revolutionary themes and forms of the early Constructivists in his signature drawing, Perestroika Andrei Molodkin reminds us of the use of power and its consequences with his renderings of Russia's leader, Vladimir Putin.  Paintings on paper and canvas from Igor Makarevich’s Mushrooms of the Avant-Garde are highlights of this year’s booth, along with paintings of North Korea's national flower by Yevgeniy Fiks.  Photography is represented by Valera & Natasha Cherkashin  who share an extraordinary view of the Beijing underground and Leonid Tishkov who shines his Private Moon in Taiwan, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.

Don't miss what is sure to be a memorable show, highlighting talent on an international stage.
