Positions #4 Gluklya at the VanAbbemuseum

December 01 2018 - March 05 2019

Gluklya's current work has focused on participatory art projects where she works with people and places that help shape public spaces. Her work is playful, and she often uses her studio as a meeting place where people come together to make clothes and other items that reflect their social experiences. These elements are later used for performances in public spaces.

In 2017, Gluklya's studio was located in the former prison, Bijlmerbajes (near Amsterdam, NL), where different artists, refugees and other cultural NGO activities were also based temporarily. This unique location inspired her to initiate the Utopian Unemployment Union (UUU), a platform for different collaborations with refugees, asylum seekers, students, art practitioners, scholars and other people. Under the umbrella of the UUU, Gluklya developed the protest performance Carnival of the Oppressed Feelings. This exhibition is a new reflection by the artist on that whole experience, presented as well as a film of the performance.
