Dianne Beal has worked as an independent curator and art dealer promoting contemporary Russian art since the late 1980s through the organization of non-profit and commercial exhibitions as well as curatorial assignments and lectures.
As a recognized specialist of non-conformist Soviet art, both in Washington and Paris, she has developed an excellent reputation for promoting intellectually challenging projects. Dianne served as guest curator of a major traveling exhibition of works by eleven artists, Russian Constructivist Roots: Present Concerns and organized a widely acclaimed installation Goodbye Favorite European Portraits: Hello Euro at the World Bank headquarters. Dianne had a long association with Norton Dodge, a major collector of non-conformist art from the Soviet Union, who also served as a mentor.
Prior to opening her first gallery in 1994, she worked with other commercial galleries in Washington specializing in contemporary international art. In 2007, she co-founded Galerie Blue Square at 14 rue Debelleyme in the Marais district of Paris. After living nearly eight years in France, she now spends time between Washington and Paris.
The gallery, now virtual, works to introduce private collectors, galleries and museums to the largely unknown world of contemporary Russian art and other artists world-wide who explore the boundaries of non-objective art.
Dianne earned a Bachelor of Arts in Russian and Eastern European Studies from the University of Michigan and a Master of Arts in International Affairs from the George Washington University. She has been invited as a visiting lecturer at leading US universities and has served as guest curator and juror for various public and private institutions, including Citibank, the Mayor of Paris, the World Bank, several American university art museums, the Louvre Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in Paris. Dianne also worked with UBS bank and its top Private Wealth clients at Art Basel Miami Beach.
