It is with great sadness that we note the loss of Eduard Shteinberg, one of the most influential and accomplished artists of the Soviet "non-conformist" movement of the last century. Edik led the way and created an artistic path for others to follow. He lived the latter part of his life in Paris exhibiting principally with Galerie Claude Bernard. He exhibited at the most prestigious museums in the world including the Tretyakov and Guggenheim museums. Edik was a dear soul with a generous heart and will be missed deeply.

Lesson of History -a survey of contemporary Russian art from the past 30 years- curated by Joseph Backstein will be showing works by 20 of Russia's most significant and emblematic contemporary artists, including Igor Makarevich.
History, both personal and global, or better yet, the reflection on history, as well as the contemplation and interpretation of historical events, and finally, nostalgia --- is a constant theme in Russian art. "The work of these artists over the past 10 years often reflects the cultural-historical, social and political circumstances of the period in which they were created," said Joseph Backstein. "It is precisely these works that relate to various historical periods, and which in essence are their reflection, that interested me in the framework of this project.''
Télérama's article on Alexeï Vassiliev's Z-31(10/12) exhibition:
"Dans cette nouvelle série au nom de code énigmatique, Alexeï Vassiliev poursuit sa quête de l’abstraction jusqu’aux limites de l’objectif. A travers ses grandes polyptyques en couleurs, les sujets capturés dans le mouvement sont à peine identifiables. Le photograph capte la danse des corps, fait valser la lumière comme un peintre avec ses pinceaux. Une exposition présentée dans le cadre de l’année France-Russie."
